ADT Security announced the launch this week of a new interactive home solution called ADT Pulse, which provides customers with the ability to access and control a variety of systems within their homes.

According to a statement issued by the company, Pulse customers can access their home systems through their smart phones or computers to do a variety of tasks including; arming and disarming their security system; receive notification of alarms and events through email and text; view home security cameras and watch real-time video or stored footage; and, access lights and appliances to set schedules or automate them.

"ADT Pulse gives users a way to manage their home from wherever life takes them," said Don Boerema, chief marketing officer for ADT Security Systems. "This service is a natural evolution of traditional home security services that takes into consideration the needs of today's always-connected consumer. For the first time, life safety services are being brought together with lifestyle management applications in a solution that the average household can afford."

ADT Pulse uses the Z-Wave communications protocol for interoperable home control products. Z-Wave is one of two main RF frequencies used in the market, along with ZigBee.
